I've written many times about fuel qualities, ethanol, etc so I wont go back into detail there however, I have been doing research as to ways to combat the ...problems it's creating on stock and modified engines.
Many of you may have noticed this winter, that your bike developed a hesitation, maybe a spark knock. I've found this to be due to excessive carbon buildup with the change in fuel blends (provided the bike is in good mechanical condition and tuned properly). As shown in the picture, this engine had excessive carbon build up and had developed a knock when it had been fine in years past and was perfectly tuned. There were no changes and no mechanical issues so we cleaned the heads and piston tops and the noise went away. So where am I going with this???....
Unfortunately off the shelf fuel system additives and cleaners didnt really work well so I have put together a method of removing carbon from pistons and combustion chambers thru a fuel injection service (can also be done with carb bikes)...which also cleans throttle body sensors, intake, plate, and injectors. Again, provided everything is in mechanical order, this procedure is curing most issues with loss of fuel economy, spark knock, carbon knock, and loss of power.
With a quick inspection, we can see if this needs to be done and can be completed as part of a service or stand alone. From experience at this point, after the initial cleaning, I see this being required after the winter blend fuel (spring) changes or at least once a year (approx every 10,000 miles.) Call for pricing or if you have any questions.
